Snow Days

Well, it is that time of year. Everyone is about, bussling around, rushing to purchase all the packages for Santa. Jason and I are taking a year off from gift buying, with the exception of Logan, Erica, and each other. With the baby and the house, it is the responsible choice. That hasn't stopped us from shopping, though. We love to cruise around the mall checking out all there is to offer. On Thursday, we stopped in to let Logan tell Santa what he wants for Christmas. It is a tradition, like the lights and the tree, that come with the magic of Christmas. It is nice to have that warm feeling inside. This year, with the ice storm and now the snow, it has been really fun to be with each other while being stuck in the house. We even got to host our neighbors for one night. I wish it could have been more, just for the fun feeling of having company, but I know they were very happy to have electricity back. Our block looks great, but as you drive down the street, the devastation from the ice cannot be missed. Big limbs are on houses and cars, but luckily on Wednesday the rescue team came in. 13 bucket trucks were in our neighborhood alone. This weekend we are under a heavy snow advisory, so it is yet another day to clean. Maybe I will finally get the tree decorated. I am just so thankful for the opportunity to show the true meaning of the season and that we were able to help one another.

I am sure that most of you want to know how Logan is doing. He is scooting around the house and starting to pull the things off of the shelves. He still loves shoes and talking to the fish in the coffee table. He is helping me type this now. The new favorite toy is the jumper. gbnnnnnnnn.
That was him; it was too cute to erase. He is eating stage two foods and those little puffs that melt. The other day he got to eat his first goldfish cracker. I can't believe how big he is getting. If it wasn't for his jumper, I don't know what we would do. He jumps for hours. Well, not really, but it feels like a long time! OK, so he is chewing on the cord...I must go entertain him! I will post pictures and hopefully a video of his jumping, soon!

Welcome, Baby Erica!

I am an aunt again! This time my sister, Candace, has had a baby girl, Erica Grace. She arrived Wednesday, November 15 at 8:36. I was told that she was really cute and that she is a squeaky sleeper. Candy said that she is doing really well, but is just tired from 14 hours of labor! Erica had a little trouble in the beginning, she tried to come out facing the wrong direction, so she was a little blue upon arrival. Within minutes, though, she pinked up and began to squeak. I wish I could have been there, but apparently the new family was surrounded by other friends, family, and well wishers. What a blessing! Congratulations, Candace and Eric! And Happy Birthday, Erica! I can't wait to meet you at Thanksgiving!

One Sock and Wonders

It has been a beautiful day today. We had the windows open and Jason finished more of the bathroom. I tried to get the house clean for the week. Jason and I are actually going on a date this Tuesday, a gift from the Sisks, and I am pumped!

I have noticed Logan doesn't like wearing both socks. In most of the pictures he only has on one sock. We were eating dinner earlier and looked over to see Logan chewing on his sock that he had pulled off his foot. This kid has a foot fetish! He also belly/army crawled over to my foot while I was folding laundry and tried to chew on my toe (with the sock on, by the way). He is eating so much these days, but I don't think that toe is a first food. Hopefully it is a never food. Rachel said the other day he ate a jar of green beans, a fist sized amount of rice cereal, and 8 ounces of milk before he stopped fussing for food. Today he has squeeled and whined buu buu and duuu duuu until we'd give him more to eat. The little dude will be off and running before we know it.

Saturday, Logan and I were driving to get Melissa on our weekly grocery run to Wal-Mart when I passed a couple hanging Christmas lights on their house. I caught myself wondering why people would be putting up lights so early in the year. CRAZY ME, it is almost Thanksgiving! I can't believe that in 43 days, Logan will be celebrating his first Christmas with his cousin Erica. Where did the time go? I must go make my list... Dear Santa, I have been a really good girl this year....

Hope's Auction

Happy November!

Jason, Logan, and I went to Rolla this weekend for Hope's Auction. Our good friend Cassie is raising money to adopt a little girl, Hope, from El Salvador. It was amazing to see God at work in the community. Someone even donated $1000 to the cause!! We got a start on our Christmas gifts and ate coneys to contribute to bringing Hope home. Logan even got a new baby gate and a basket for his toys. One of the pies went for $42! What an amazing blessing. I can't wait to meet to Hope.

Logan has had a great week eating peas and now squash. In a few days we will start carrots. He likes rice cereal better than oatmeal, but his favorite is still "Dairy Queen." Mr. Wiggle Britches is now exploring his vocal range and sang over the phone the same note over and over to Nanny and Grandpa. He is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his cousin, Erica, and hopes to meet her at Thanksgiving! Hang in there, Doodle!

I am sad to say that my addiction to TV is finally over. When they announced that the writers had gone on strike, I was actually relieved that I would have less TV to catch up on. Today was a great day because I got to sleep in and clean the house. I even finished the laundry. So I am feeling a little pathetic that I haven't seen a movie in in six months, but what a joy it is to watch Logan giggle!

Stay tuned...I will have more to say and more pictures, soon!

Hello Everyone,
We have had a really busy month with a trip to Denver to see Jason's brother, Allen, get married to his new wife Allison, Parent Teacher Conferences, Carnival, and a visit from Jason's other brother Danny and his wife, Vanessa!
We had a wonderful trip to the Mile High City. Jason not only got to be the best man in the wedding, but he also accomplished one of his goals in life, seeing the Pepsi Center where his favorite hockey team, the Avalanche, plays. He bought himself a flag as a souvineer and got Logan a hockey sleeper. We also just had to have the stuffed Zamboni. Hopefully one of the pictures is of Logan with it. We also had a great time at the wedding and the reception was at Mile High Stadium! Jason even got to run around the field in a tuxedo. What a neat experience. Logan even wore a bowtie!
Parent Teacher conferences went smoothly this week after my idea of having student led conferences. The students had to collect artifacts from each class to share with their parent and then show them their report cards. We had 87 of 90 show up, a 97%! It was a great confidence builder to have it turn out so well. I love having the support of a great team. This has been my best school year yet!
Our school also had its annual carnival this weekend. We got to show off the baby and see the crowning of our Jr. High King and Queen before returning to an impromptu turkey fry at the Gamlins. Great turkey by the way, Missy and Jerry!
Last weekend Danny and Vanessa came to visit us from Strafford and we had a great time. We went to a new restaurant called "The Ole Barn." It was in the middle of nowhere. If it wasn't for a recommendation from one of my students we wouldn't have tried it, but thanks to a great piece of favorite food writing, we had a really good meal. We also traveled to the Shryock's Corn Maze and wandered around for hours. It was a beautiful weekend.
We have been really blessed with a beautiful, warm fall. I am really not ready for winter. The trees are turning and when we were in Denver we got to see the Aspen's changing.

Logan Update:
Logan has been rolling around the house and will reach for his puppy or pacifier and the Tivo remote. He will also cry if he doesn't like a particular toy or if he is bored or alone . He is growing every day and is now 24 1/2 inches tall and weighs 13 lbs. 13 oz. We started solid foods with rice cereal and tried peas today. He has moved on past vowel sounds to babbling in phrases over and over.

Welcome!!

Hello Everyone!

It sure has been extremely busy with the Duryea's for the past few months. Jason and I bought our first house, I have started back at school (this year with four subjects), and Logan has been keeping us busy every second. Right now, I should be doing school work, but instead I am feeding Logan and updating all of you. So here is the lowdown...

The kiddo:

Logan is now 13 pounds and 25 inches tall! He is rolling over, cooing, blowing raspberries, and starting to giggle when he is tickled under his arms. He has the best expressions and the most beautiful smile in the world. His favorite toy is a puppy from his great aunt Donna. It has crunchy ears that are easy to grab and chew on. He had his first ear infection last week and forgot that he had been sleeping through the night. Also, he started rice cereal as you will see, once I figure out how to post pictures. He is a natural with a spoon. Logan is loving it at the sitters, where he gets to play with the boys all day. Overall, he is a very happy little guy.

The house:

We are officially in the country. This was in question because we do live in a neighborhood. All was answered the other day when I came home to find a GIGANTIC spider had built an elaborate web from the ceiling fan to the floor. Yep, only in the country do you find tarantula sized critters hanging from a rotating ceiling fan. We are still getting settled in, but the family is extremely happy with our new home, even if the spiders think they are part of the fam.

What's been going on:

We have been all over this month, and most recently to St. Louis to reacquaint with the brothers of Acacia Fraternity. It was a beautiful picnic and we had a wonderful time. Before that we went to Mexico, Missouri for a wedding reception where Logan tried to steal the spotlight, but the bride and groom were the real center of attention. It was a beautiful affair. Even our most modest principal danced the night away.

For next time:

We are heading first to see our friends in Kansas City, then on to a plane to Denver to see Allen and Ally get married!! See more of that story when we return!
